About the PCBA (this section under construction)

PCBA members are college and university band directors in the state of Pennsylvania. They collaborate throughout the year and come together annually at that year’s host school (hosting duties rotate) with their students who have been selected to participate in the band. After three days of intense rehearsal under the direction of a renowned guest conductor, the weekend culminates in the annual banquet and festival concert.

Director Nominations (this section under construction)

Directors nominate their best students to be considered for participation in the annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band through the Director Tally Sheet. An institutional fee of $150 is assessed to each participating school via an invoice which is processed at the time of application. Once students are selected, the host school will send each director an invoice listing their students who were chosen. For each student selected, the participating school pays $75.00 per student. (Some schools choose to require the students themselves to pay the fee to ensure participation.)

Student Applications (this section under construction)

Once students are recommended by their director, the director provides them with a link to the student General Application. All students must complete the General Application and a musical resume form. Percussion applicants will complete the General Application as well as a Percussion Application. Once completed, directors will be notified and will complete the director certification.

Why Participate?

Our strength comes from our combined abilities and our efforts to provide our college and university band students with an exceptional experience under the direction of renowned conductors from around the country. We are stronger when we combine, and we believe our students benefit greatly when they can go beyond the confines of their own institutions. It is reinforcing. It is eye-opening. It is in many cases life-changing. And it is good for us, as directors!

What Our Members Say

  • "I have been a band director in PA for 30 years. My first experience meeting other collegiate directors came during my first ICB festival. These directors are genuine, welcoming and without pretense or ego. So many have become great friends and resources. And the band experience for my students has ALWAYS been inspiring, uplifting, and highly beneficial to them personally. I love this organization!"

Adam F. Brennan, DMA, Commonwealth University of PA - Mansfield

  • "The members of PA Collegiate Bandmasters' Association have been one another's ride-or-die colleagues for more than three quarters of a century, not only coming together annually to produce these amazing festival experiences for our students, but also serving as the first ones to show up to support one another when needed with encouragement, great ideas, and hard work. Many of them have become close and valued friends over my 45 years of membership."

Cheryl Y. Boga, Conductor and Artistic Director, Performance Music at The University of Scranton
